MICROBUSINESSES GET MORE TIME TO APPLY FOR $2,500 COUNTY GRANTS
The smallest of San Diego County’s small businesses ― from dog walkers to tutors, sidewalk vendors, and everything in between ― now have more time to apply for a free $2,500 County grant. The deadline for “microbusinesses” hurt by COVID-19 to apply for the second round of $2,500 grants has been extended from June 24 to July 15. Read more here.
CHILDREN 6 MONTHS TO 4 YEARS GET THEIR COVID-19 VACCINES Children 6 months to 4 years old are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and hundreds of local parents jumped at the opportunity to be first in line. Loaded with blankets, toys and promises of sweet treats, parents filed into Rady Children’s vaccine clinic for the COVID protection they have been anxiously awaiting. Everyone 6 months and older can get COVID-19 vaccines at no cost. Boosters are also available for people 5 years and older. Parental consent is required for all eligible minors to be vaccinated. COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY All public San Diego County offices, family resource centers, libraries, and animal shelters will be closed Monday, July 4, for Independence Day. Most County and state-operated COVID-19 vaccination and testing sites will be closed Monday and will resume normal hours Tuesday. COUNTY ADDING NEW WARNING CATEGORY TO INFORM BEACHGOERS On July 1, 2022, the County of San Diego will begin using a new beach water-safety category and signs at local beaches in its continuing efforts to educate and protect the public’s health. County officials encourage residents and visitors to learn more about water quality conditions and risks by using the QR code on posted beach signs or by visiting sdbeachinfo.com for more information. NEW! TECH CONNECT Now, all County Libraries are allowing a patron to check out a Chromebook + a MiFi hotspot for up to one year! The Tech Connect Program was created after the San Diego County Library acquired 7,000 Chromebook and hotspot sets via the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) grant to circulate to members of the community in need of digital access and bridge the digital divide. The Chromebook and hotspot set is free to check out with a library card. Check out is on a first come, first served basis, and reservations are not taken. Learn more about the program here.
